hello i am at my witts end and need some help!!!i have an old english called chuckie,he is a spoilt baby!at 6 years old!now he lives indoors ,as we are on a farm he does spend more time outside and tends to get rather smelly and spends alot of time with his doggy friend who is riddled with fleas,but as he is not my dog i do not have the right to treat the fleas but with chuckie i bath him avery week (which i think is the problem)and use frontline for the fleas on a regular basis,now he has bad sores on his back and red patches allover and he has lost his beautiful coat,he has been to the vet twice and she has said he is allergic to fleas but she couldnt find any on him,now i think it is maybe because i bath him too much is there anyone out there who can suggest something that i can put on him to re vamp his coat as maybe he has lost all the oils from me bathing him too much!and maybe its dry skin that is causing the sores,please please help i want him to have his beautiful coat back and im feeling pretty bad! thank you!

Do you condition the coat after bathing? Bathing EVERY week is a wee bit much.....and l know that conditioning a bobtails coat WILL soften it........but conditioning WILL help! (Just a cheap human one is as good as an expensive doggy one!)
Exmarid l have found (l use it on dogs that come into my salon with poor or skin problems) is FAB ! The vets seem to fob my clients off with Malasab- which costs a BOMB- but Vetzzyme Exmarid shampoo is great and seems to do a much better job! It is coldtar based- so therefore soothes the skin- and stops the scratching!
Try not to bath him soo much.......once a month is more than suffient.HONEST ! Have you tried a talc on him.pref one that is NON PERFUMED..try a baby talc to keep him clean RATHER than bathing him so much!Will be better for his coat......HONEST !!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with all that Trish has said. I very rarely bath my lot. I do think that bathing encourages the hair to mat too.
My mother had a similar skin allergy problem with a cairn terrier and swore by the Exmarid but do make sure it's not got anything to do with any of the forms of mange too, which does cause sores and hair loss. The only treatment unfortunately is to bath (yet again) in a preparded solution to kill the mangemites.

you may like to try apple cider vinergar (unpasturised), its good for all sorts including skin/coat and immune system i struggled for months with one of mine if its mites/mange it will need demodex washes, has the vet done a scrape,, only way to see if he has mites under a microscope.
can give you a link for the cider vinegar (super company)
let us know what happens

| thank you so much to all of you i am going to take you up on these remedies and stop bathing him,unfortunately i live in france but i am sure i can find the exmarid etc here so thanks again i will keep you updated. |
